Elegant Furniture Of Wrestler Influence

Not often would you put wrestler and elegant in the same sentence, but conversely, have you ever watched the free-flowing nature of Japanese wrestling? Strongly influencing this collection of sofas, whilst it may not seem apparent the Japanese tie, upon closer look, suchlike are really nicely designed.

Manufactured by Sancal, the two upholstered sofas have been named 'Obi' and 'Sumo' with each created by in-house designer Rafa Garcia and Valencia-based (Spain) creative studio yonoh respectively. With strong influence of the Japanese Kimono robe, the Obi offers a luxurious quilted backing and seat pattern from which large bows enable the use of super comfortable foam and high quality quilting; high backs and curved arms complete the sofa ensemble. Offered with anti-gravity transparent acrylic legs or stained ash feet, the Obi is as practical as it is luxurious as it is neo-futuristic.

In contrast, the form of the 'sumo' sofa references the silhouettes of Japanese wrestlers and features an oversized spherical form that sits upon wooden legs, perhaps as if the chair were about to enter a wrestling ring. Available as either a sofa or armchair, the ash timber feet make further wrestling reference by way of being a materials commonly found dotted around a traditional sports ring.

Both nicely sized and well proportioned, SATORI & SCOUT wished to highlight both pieces mainly due to their presence at Salone del Mobile Milano of 2016, and were perhaps noteworthy collections of the modern furnishing and furniture show. Discover more about the designer at Sancal.com.
