Classical Emoticons Architecture
Live life on the funny side. Is it a smiley, a frowny, a winky-eyey, tonguey-outty, a hearty-wearty, whats your kind of day today and forever always?! As showcased in Vathorst (Holland), at a new suburban development, it has been designed that several of it's mixed-used buildings feature such famed and ever popular emojis.
Designed by Attika Architekten, the quirky yet culturally sensitive facades of the buildings are certainly unique and perhaps worthy of inspiration of your home's new design, proving that nothing is daring enough. The Amsterdam-based design studio has successfully made complete an otherwise typical building design in the featuring of 22 humorous faced emoticons. Made of concrete, they're here to stay.
As the design studio explains, "...in classical architecture they used heads of the king or whatever, and they put that on the facade. So we were thinking, what can we use as an ornament so when you look at this building in 10 or 20 years you can say "...hey this is from that year!". The cast concrete characters express a range of familiar emoji emotions, including the classic sad and happy styles, the instantly-recognisable kissing face, and the much-loved heart eyes personality." Rationally sensible, such ornamentation is certainly ubiquitous in present-times. Just think, however, in twenty years time when the emoticons are a distant fad, what will people think?!
