Is PACKIOLI *The* New Bio-Packaging For Commercial Soaps?

Introducing PACKIOLI, a water-resistant bio-packaging for commercial soaps. Made of artichoke leaves or peapods and 100% biodegradable materials, the bio-packaging design is a combination of the enormous artichoke and peapod waste, especially in the west of Turkey, to start a conversation about over-consumption of plastic and solve the problem of plastic packaging of the commercial soaps.

PACKIOLI is resistant to water even if it contacts with water regularly up to 1 week. Also, it has an easy-tear opening in case of direct contact with human skin under water pressure, and biodegrades in the water in 10 to 15 days. It contains natural coloring from plants, without any chemicals. And, has a surface finishing that is suitable for printing/ bioprinting.

  • The Problem

According to Zero Waste Week, the global cosmetics industry produces over 120 billion units of packaging every year, most of which is non-recyclable and ends up in landfill, or worse yet, the ocean. On average 80% of each artichoke goes to waste, that is the leaves and stems of artichokes.
