Philippe Starck, a French designer who has been widely known since the start of his career for his innovative and well-designed interior, product, industrial and architectural solutions, has collaborated with Brazilian shoe brand Ipanema, all with the aim of re-imagining footwear design during the Summer 2016 season.
Re-envisioning a collection of modern and elegant sandals that each independently and collectively reflect a different mood or lifestyle choice that is embodied by the modern day aspirational man or woman, Starck has somewhat taken to this new line of work. In celebration of the collaboration, four minimalist and simple designs of the collection have been illustrated in promotional graphics to further depict the associated themes. With ice lollies, sand buckets, sun hats and umbrellas mixed with women’s legs and sandals, these collage graphics and shoe designs certainly live up to Starck’s usual playful and stylish fashion.
A fun, chic and colourful sandal and flip flop brand that has been named after one of the most exotic and famous beaches in the world, Ipanema (Brazil), Rio’s stunning landscape and lifestyle act both as the backdrop and inspiration for its designs. A fantastic mixture of relaxed seaside lifestyle and sophistication of city glamour, Ipanema’s collaboration with Starck is a really nice mixture, and the resulting designs are very much quirky and minimalist. Found on celebrities’ feet such as Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Kate Hudson, Ashton Kutcher and so many others, Ipanema is also the Official Footwear Sponsor of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim held each July in Miami Beach, and with their collaboration with Phillippe Starck, it goes to show how diverse design really is.
As in true SATORI & SCOUT fashion, we look beyond the style branding, and Ipanema’s environmental commitment is really nice, using at least 30% recycled materials in each flip flop, while 99% of all factory waste is recycled or reused.
