We’re obsessed with speed and living in the fast lane, but need we be? Nike are certainly saying yes and such has now been delivered as, supposedly, the fastest pair of shoes ever. Ever. Unveiling their latest aerodynamic trainer design that will help their athletes be able to run sub-two-hour marathons, or at least they aim to, the Zoom Vaporfly Elite has been entirely custom-engineered for three athletes that represent the athletics brand Nike. Training for the Breaking2 race that will be hosted in 2017 at the Italian Autodromo Nazionale Monza racetrack, the athletes are said to be confident.
Looking closer at the team and the trainers, the select athletes are Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya, Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia and Zersenay Tadese of Eritrea, and it is these three that they hope will run 42.195 kilometres (26.2 miles) in under two hours. Sounds impressive, it is. With the Nike Zoom Vaporfly Elites designed to be supportive and efficient, the cushioning runner shoes aim to release all the pain caused by the under-concrete surfaces and propel the legs of the athletes forwards. Ultra-lightweight (185 grams), what is most unique about the shoe is it’s heel in the way that it protrudes beyond the back of the heel of the athlete. Such a design is said to aid aerodynamics in the way that the shoe curves upward and point at it’s back.
As Nike Innovation Design Director Stefan Guest explains, “…a shoe at 185 grams with this amount of cushioning has never been seen before. It’s the fastest shoe ever, the lightest marathon shoe, but also with an incredible amount of cushioning.”
Also offering the latest Nike flyknit technology, one which SATORI & SCOUT recently featured, the Nike shoes include the new ZoomX foam technology that was developed by Nike for Rio 2016 Olympics, as well as a carbon fibre underneath (providing stiffness and further lightness).

Keeping Up With These Nike ShoesNike have released a statement that mentions that Nike are considering the Zoom Vaporfly Elite as a 'concept car that will not be sold'. As such, consumer versions of the shoe will be released separately and these will include: Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4%, Nike Zoom Fly and Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 34. Too fast to even buy...
