Ford’s Novel Newborn Cot Drive

"...Ford's Max Motor Dreams cot has been developed for parents with newborns, who perhaps see night-time drives as a way to soothe their baby..."

So it is believed that babies sleep better while driving. The team at SATORI & SCOUT can first hand relate, and so car manufacturers have taken upon themselves to cross the boundary and enter the industry of babies’ sleeping arrangements, namely cots. Having invented a ‘Smart crib’ that soothes small babies asleep by gently rocking and lighting up, the car journey simulation is one that is both peculiar but welcome simultaneously.

Ford’s Max Motor Dreams cot has been developed for parents with newborns who perhaps see night-time drives as a way to soothe their baby till they drift off to sleep. Though the cot appears to be normal, in fact it is normal in that it has a bed that is baby sized, the device has the capability of simulating the motion, engine noise and even the street lighting of a night‐time journey. With a speaker inside the unit to also simulate engine sounds, the cot mimics a car’s movement as well as it’s LED lights be sporadic and passing, literally as if the newborn were driving down Main Street or London Road (Every road in UK is called London Road, have you noticed?)

Designed by designer Alejandro López Bravo of Spanish based Espada y Santa Cruz to develop the design, Bravo explains that “…after many years of talking to mums and dads, we know that parents of newborns are often desperate for just one good night’s sleep. But while a quick drive in the family car can work wonders in getting baby off to sleep, the poor old parents still have to be awake and alert at the wheel.” A novel approach we shall admit.
