Apple Speeds On With Driverless Car

"...Apple has finally acknowledged that it is indeed investing in autonomous car (driverless car) technology. Surprised?"

It is but true. If you have heard speculation recently, Apple has finally acknowledged that it is indeed investing in autonomous car (driverless car) technology. Surprised? As published and widely available to read, Apple wrote a letter to the US transport regulators, whereby Apple’s Director of Product Integrity Steve Kenner explained that the company were “…excited about the potential of automated systems in many areas, including transportation”.

A five-page letter that is perhaps worth a read if you’re so interested, such action follows the registering of a number of car-related website URL domains earlier this year in Apple’s name, though until now, have always been unaccompanied with any commitment toward working on any form of self-driving car itself.

Though rumoured as early as 2015 to be working on an autonomous vehicle, media speculated that the high tech company employed over 500 staff entirely committed to designing an electric car design. Further rumours, though original source unknown, suggested that an electric car would be available by 2019. Neither confirming or denying any development within the automotive industry, CEO Tim Cook stated in 2014 that “there are products that Apple are working on that no one knows about”, as AppleInsider published.

Fancy driving an Apple car to work today? Google might have something to say on this topic. SATORI & SCOUT reckons there might just be that all too anticipated battle of the tech giants once more sometime in the not too distant future.

The Driverless Car

Do you not find it strange to think that society may one day actually be entirely robotised? It really is a worrying feat, but think back to when computers and mobile phones were first conceptualised. Technology is both a wonderful and scary...
